Left 4 Dead 2 – BANNED in Australia

I am irate, foaming at the mouth and generally sick of this crap – Kotaku and IGNau have reported that the sequel to one of the hottest shoot-em up zombie games, Left 4 Dead 2, has been hit hard with the ban hammer in Australia. While other countries seem to be unaffected it drives me nuts every time we get the big RC (refused classification) label slammed onto an upcoming game.

The official report, via IGNau and News.com.au, has summarised that the game is “unsuitable for a minor to see or play” and yes I totally agree and so is an R18+ movie so why don’t we have a similar classification for games?  What is the reason for not having one? Does the classification board still think that games are just for kids? Are movies just for kids? Should we tone down Pulp Fiction so it wins a G rating? Would that make them happy?

Well whatever happens, I hope that the ‘board’ wake up to themselves and realise that people over the age of 18 DO play games. We don’t all suddenly morph into golfers who like to build furniture and discuss political and social agendas in our spare time once we hit ‘maturity’. Gaming is as much part of entertainment as watching a movie is and being of a mature age we should be able to decide what we want to play based on our decision and not some group who deem it right to do so.

R18+ classification for games, make it happen.
