I want to be an Assassin

Alright, so I don’t own a PS3 – but still I CANNOT wait for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2 to come out! I was going to write some awesome introduction to this article, but I get too excited when I start talking about this game. If you couldn’t be bothered reading this long article, you should at least scroll down and watch the videos that accompany it. Then you’ll get why there is just so much to write about.

The Assassin’s Creed series is basically about a guy, Desmond, who gets kidnapped by a company cause he knows something they want and is stuck into a machine called the Animus which makes him re-live the memories of his ancestors who were assassins.

So basically you control Desmond when he’s in his ancestor’s bodies. There is plenty of parkour style moves and for those who don’t know what that is, it’s freestyle/acrobatic running. So there is lots of running, jumping, climbing and stabbing people in the back (like literally). In the first game you played as the assassin Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad in Jeruselum in the year 1191. The reviews for this game were generally positive, although there were lots of complaints about the repetitive game play.

I won’t lie – when I played Assassin’s Creed at my friend’s place, I played for ten minutes and I think it was enough to get the gist of the game. I ran around, killed some stuff, etc. I did really love the environment and costume designs though. They seriously thought of pretty much every single detail. For example Altaïr’s name means ‘The Flying Eagle, Son of None’, there’s the whole idea of the assassins being birds of prey, when Altaïr jumps, his shadow looks like an eagle – hell, when he jumps there’s an eagle sound effect played in the background.

Ok, so that was Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is just… Just… I watched cinematic that was shown at E3 on Youtube – then I went to download it in HD and watched it again. And again. Aaaand again. And then I showed it to all my friends. And then I watched it some more. It’s SO DAMN PRETTY.

The storyline of Assassin’s Creed 2 continues on from the first game – Desmond uses the Animus to relive the memories of his ancestors, but this time, you will play as Ezio Auditore da Firenze (means ‘The Flying One, Listener of Florence’), an Italian-nobleman-turned-assassin for purposes of avenging his father’s death and protecting his mother and sister who are in hiding. The game is set three hundred years after Assassin’s Creed in the Italian Renaissance era.

There are plenty of reasons why I’m so psyched about this game. Firstly, they apparently fixed the whole repetitive game play problem by scrapping the old mission system and implementing a new system. Not too much is known about it yet, so I’m not too sure if this is true or not. Another is reason I’m psyched is cause of the whole design of the game. The environment, the characters (Ezio *drooooool*), the costumes, THE WEAPONS. Argh! The concept art that has been released is just so, so beautiful and detailed.

Also if that doesn’t get your attention, how about the fact the Leonard da Vinci is an ally of yours and you get to use the inventions he makes? Yeah, that is pure awesome in my opinion. In the demo Ezio was seen using a ‘flying machine’ of his (pretty much an elaborate hang-glider). Da Vinci isn’t your only ally however; you actually get to befriend a lot of underground groups like thieves, courtesans (hookers, if you didn’t know) and I’m assuming an assassin guild.

Okay, I could seriously go on forever about what I’ve seen of this game so far- I’m so, so infatuated with it. Anyway I just watched the cinematic again. *sigh* ‘Scuse me while I go change my panties…
