Rich and Dan continue their E3 foray and discuss Sony’s latest offerings. The Idiotcat joined the team, with her much needed input into the matter.
Some of the topics discussed:
- Killzone 3
- 3D-3D gaming
- Medal of Honour
- Sorcery
- Move
- Portal 2
- Little Big Planet 2
- Playstation Plus
- Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Some of the topics NOT discussed:

Killzone 3 really doesn’t look much different from Killzone 2. The only thing new that I could gather from it was that it was Move and 3D compatible.
As for Medal of Honour, I have yet to check out anything about the upcoming game but if it’s already looking like Modern Warfare, I’m sure it will only get worse with Respawn Entertainment working on this or the next MoH (can’t remember..)
And laaaaastly~ Playstation Plus! The only feature most users will buy it for is the Cross-Game Chat which STILL isn’t even out yet and already has some layer of fiddly-ness in that every one can participate in a Cross-Game whether or not they have the ‘Plus’ subscription or not. It’s just that only a ‘Plus’ user can initiate the chat.
All the other bonuses of the ‘Plus’ subscription really don’t seem that appealing at all.
Any type of “exclusive demo” would probably be timed exclusive at best or maybe they mean trialling full games?
Automatic downloads of game updates or firmware updates seems interesting but I doubt that people would pay solely for that convenience not to mention most people would probably prefer to not have their console turn on every 2hrs or whatever to check for updates..
Just my 2 (or more) cents from a PS3 user~
oh, forgot to put in. I do enjoy the podcast and pass it on has much has I can. Keep er coming.
I guess I have to put this in 2 parts or more.
Part 1
I thought I share my thoughts on the latest podcast.
SONY PLUS
What PS3 users currently get for free will remain free.
The biggest thing that Plus has to offer are the special deals on games. So when you go to the PSN store it gives you 2 prices (if its offered in the plus store aswell) One game will be $9.99 for regular users and plus members would get it for $4.99. Besides games that you get at a discount, there are countless free games and DLC that regular users would have to pay for. The catch here for the free stuff that others pay for, is if you cancel your subscription you no longer have access to all the free games that you downloaded. Which makes sense with any membership. You cancel a Gym membership, you arn’t allowed to just show up and say you just want to take 2 laps in the pool.
The stuff they offer for free are PS1 games, mini’s (some are good some are bad) Disc based and DLC Add-ons, avatars and themes.
Then its the access to beta’s and early demos. I don’t really care about this feature, bah! You will also be able to play full game demos for an hr to see if you want to buy it. So the first game they have on the store of Plus is Infamous. You can play it for an hr and if you like it, you can download it from the store.
Part 2
For the first release of the store with the amount of free items that a plus user can get is valued at $80. So with a membership of $49.99, you are already getting a savings and coming out on top.
BUT, for long time users like myself most of these offers don’t apply to me, cause I already have purschased most of the content anyway. Where this appeal comes to play is with new users. If you never went to the PSN store or purchased anything from the store. Then with the a Plus membership you are getting alot of SWAG.
Cross game chat is still not offered and is said that when it finally does come to the PSN, it too will be free for all users. But what they say on the official site and what they end up doing may be two different things.
ahh, don’t be disgruntled with the PS3 online.
Its reallly fun, What you have to do is play with people you know or NICE people that you’ve met. Yes, like any online game, there are bunghols. But I’ve expanded my friends list to a large group of great gamers who make a online game great fun.
Little Big Planet with friends is a laugh in a box. IDIOT CAT, you are doing yourself a deservice by not playing online. If you’re only experience online is a a bad one, then you need to try it again with people you know. Its two different worlds, I too don’t like playing with randoms, they tend to be jerks. But online with friends, is a blast (get a mic, a mic really adds to the game play, a USB mic will work well, its what I use, don’t need to spend $60 on a official Sony blue-tooth that dies on you mid game. A USB headset for $20 works great!!) . Do you enjoy playing a game co-op with a friend in the same room? If you enjoyed that then online with friends is like that. Its FUN:D
Idiot Cat-What’s Last Guardian??………………. no comment.
Dan – What’s Good about Twisted Metal??………………Its metal and its gets twisted:)
Rich- For not owning a PS3, you did a great Job.. Good on ya!!
Hurdurrr~!! I feel stupid for the what’s Last Guardian thing, I apologize~!
I have played LBP with friends and it is fun. I don’t play online on PS3 because I can’t connect to the internet, I have yet to set up my router for it. I so lazy. XD I have just recently started playing online on PC with my friends and it is a great joy, so yes, redemption of the online gaming experience!!
I’m sorry if it sounded like I was against it all, but when it comes to playing online on console I am a newbie. Online on PC I’m a little scared, but only if it’s with strangers. With friends it’s awesome <3
Also, thanks for leaving a comment Danny! It’s good to hear what people think; keep ‘em coming!
